# Manage mentions

> Stop people from tagging you, or keep tags and turn off mention emails

You control whether people can @mention you in comments from your own **Notifications** page. This preference applies across your account, including comments added by the Solum team.

  The **Allow people to @mention me** setting requires the updated Notifications page. If you don't see the **Mentions** section yet, you can mute mention emails using the existing email setting, but that does not prevent tagging. Contact [support@getsolum.com](mailto:support@getsolum.com) for help.

## Stop people from tagging you

1. Open the user menu in the sidebar and select **Notifications**, or go directly to [Notification Settings](https://app.getsolum.com/notifications).
2. Under **Mentions**, turn off **Allow people to @mention me**.
3. Wait for the **Notification settings updated** confirmation. Changes save automatically.

After saving:

* Your name is excluded from newly loaded mention suggestions.
* New comments cannot create an active tag for you, including comments from the Solum team.
* If someone selected your name before you changed the setting, the submitted comment uses ordinary text without an @ marker instead of creating a tag. It does not send a mention email.
* Existing mentions remain in previously saved comments, including when the author edits other text. Adding another tag of you is blocked. People can still write your name as ordinary text.

An already-open page may show an older suggestion list. Refreshing the page updates the list; saving a comment always checks your current preference.

Turning off mentions does not prevent case assignments or stop other notification types, such as comments on a task or VOB request you follow. Manage those emails separately on the same Notifications page.

## Keep tags but stop mention emails

Leave **Allow people to @mention me** on. Under **Email Notifications**, turn off **Mentioned in a comment**.

People can still tag you in comments, but those tags do not send you mention emails. Other enabled email notifications can still arrive.

## Allow mentions again

Return to **Notifications** and turn **Allow people to @mention me** back on. Your name becomes available when other people reload mention suggestions. Your email preference stays as you set it; turn on **Mentioned in a comment** as well if you want those emails.

Re-enabling mentions does not send notifications for comments posted while mentions were off.
